The University of Dundee is one of the foremost academic and public research institutions of Scotland and the UK, located in the city of Dundee in Scotland. It was founded in 1881, formerly a part of the University of St Andrews. The university encompasses ten premier, multidisciplinary schools, offering a range of courses in each discipline. The university campus, located at the west end of the city of Dundee, extends over a sprawling green area and houses over 50 buildings – a beautiful amalgamation of modern and historical architecture. The architectural marvels that date back to as early as 1883, the Carnelley building, Ellenbank and Harris building are worth special mentions. The University extends over a Green Campus and they also own a Botanical Garden that is open to students. The schools have individual or shared cafeterias, teaching halls and offices.
Sports
There are over 40 sports clubs under the umbrella of the university’s Sports Union. The Institute of Sports and Exercise has excellent facilities that were even allocated to prospective Olympic athletes as a training centre. The indoor amenities comprise of a fully equipped gym and personal training rooms, exercise studios, dance/indoor cycling studio, strength performance centre, squash courts, and two large indoor sports halls. The Riverside Sporting Ground is a 33 acre space for most outdoor sports with two specialised pitches for hockey, rugby etc. The campus also houses other sports facilities, such as a swimming pool with sauna and four floodlit tennis court. These amenities are backed up by exceptional services and training.
Study Facilities
The state of the art Library and Learning Centre is planned with the latest technology to provide a supportive learning environment, offering spaces for the silent zone, quiet zone and group study areas. Their Main Library offers amenities that include access to an extensive collection of books, journals, e-books and online resources, study halls, laptop lockers, a café and is open 24 hours during the exam time.

The University offers IT Amenities that include Campus WiFi, Applicant Accounts, Cloud Computing, Computer Resources, Software provision and additional support services.
The University of Dundee offers reliable services to ensure the comfort, safety, and support for the educational experience of international students at their schools. Over a quarter of their students are international students. Right from receiving the student on first arrival, to settling accommodation facilities and up till the completion of the course, the International Advice Services help with any arising issue: visas, work permits, campus life, etc. Events are arranged all through the year for international students.Pre-sessional English courses are offered to incoming students and free English language lessons for international students are also available. These lessons are designed to cover academic writing, english speaking skills, seminar skills as well as listening and note-taking skills.
The University’s Student Services offers assistance in the form of admission and accommodation planning, English for International Students, Academic Skills Centre, Career Counselling, Health Services, Student Funding Services and Student Support Team. Additionally, the DUSA – Dundee University Students’ Association offers several essential union services to assist student societies and individual students too.
The University campus houses several modern buildings assigned for residential purposes. Some of the new halls of residence include Heathfield, Belmont, West Park, Seabraes and The Hub. Each offers accommodation to a specific number of students in an average of six-bedroom flats, at different price ranges. The flats come fully furnished with kitchen, dining, bedroom, sitting areas and common rooms. They even offer assistance with off-campus accommodations if required by the student.
The University of Dundee offers a number of scholarship programmes for international students. In 2014 Dundee recorded the highest 4-star level research in the Biological Sciences of any university in the UK. The Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, School of Medicine and School of Dentistry have been baggint the top ranks in UK League tables year after year. Katrina started working for a market research company after graduation and was soon leading consumer research for Mattel where she caught the eye of Disney. She began working to help develop new toy lines for Disney-LEGO. She started working for Sony Pictures in 2017 and helped to promote Spiderman Into the Spider-Verse which won an Oscar in the Best Animated Feature category. In her own words, “ It might seem like a stretch from studying Geography at Dundee, but through essay writing I learned how to get to the point. An extremely valuable skill I use on a daily basis at work.
Dentistry, Class of 1988
Mark Richardson has served in the UK and overseas as the Chief Dental Officer in the RAF and was recently named as Her Majesty The Queen’s Honorary Dental Surgeon.
English Literature, ‘90s
Gary is best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the alternative rock band Snow Patrol which he formed along with fellow Dundee students Michael Morrison and Mark McClelland.
Medicine, 1964
Lord Patel has been awarded honorary fellowships by numerous professional British, Scottish, Irish and American bodies. Lord Patel was appointed to the Order of the Thistle and the first Asian appointee in the Order’s 322-year history.
Electrical engineering and physics, 1912
Sir Robert Alexander Watson-Watt, was a Scottish pioneer of radio direction finding and radar technology that was fundamental to victory in the Second World War. Watt began his career in radio physics with a job at the Met Office and later on advised the US airforce after the Pearl Harbour attack on the severe inadequacies of their air defence. He also has a patent on a radio device for detecting and locating an aircraft.
