Formed in 1992, De Montfort University in Leicester, UK is a public university offering a choice of research, undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The name of the university originates from Simon de Montfort, the Earl of Leicester who was recognised for his several contributions including forming the first Parliament of England in the year 1265. The university came into existence in line with the Further and Higher Education Act as a degree awarding organisation. With a yearly turnover of £168 million in the region at present, De Montfort University is largely overseen by its board of Governors, which is led by the Science Museum Group Director, Sir Ian Craig Blatchford. The university is structured into four faculties – Business and Law (BAL); Health and Life Sciences (H&LS); Art, Design, and Humanities (ADH); and Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM).
De Montfort University comprises 3,240 employees and roughly 27,000 full-time and part-time students until 2018/19. International students are given a choice of 10 self-catered halls of residence and quite a few contract arrangements to meet basic requirements, with weekly prices ranging from £99 to £197. All of its halls are equipped with a bedding pack including a pillow, blanket and bed sheets. For postgraduate students, a vast selection of premium accommodation including one-bed flats and huge shared houses are also available in close proximity to the University.
SULETS, which is an agency jointly owned and operated by University of Leicester and the Students’ Union of DMU, can be approached by students looking for private rented space. The service is available at no additional charge for DMU students. Its purpose-built housing has adequately furnished rooms, studios and some flats. Your stay arrangements will be taken care of by the institution if you are looking to take part in the orientation programmes that are organised by the university.
It is important to note that UK postgraduate and research degree students, any student repeating their first year and part-time students are not qualified for university-sourced stays.

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards – Ski jumper
Michael Edwards is popularly known as ‘Eddie the Eagle’. He is a famous English ski-jumper and an Olympian who in the year 1988 became the first competitor (since 1928) to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. He is a British ski jumping record holder coming ninth in amateur speed skiing, and also has to his credit a stunt jumping world record holder for jumping over 6 buses. He was even portrayed by Taron Egerton in the biographical film of 2016 titled ‘Eddie the Eagle’.
Louis de Bernières – Novelist, Screenwriter, Author
Louis de Bernières is a well known English novelist. He gained immense recognition for his 1994 historical war novel called Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Louis de Bernières was listed in the ‘20 Best of Young British Novelists’, by Granta magazine. His book Captain Corelli’s Mandolin won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book in 1994.
