The Brunel University London (BUL), is a public academic and research university in the UK, located at Uxbridge, north-west London. Established in 1966 it was among the British ‘plate glass universities’ that gained university status in the 1960s. The University ranks among the top 60 in the UK and among the top 400 worldwide. It is a recipient of the Queen’s Anniversary Award. The Brunel University London comprises of 3 colleges and 3 research institutions. These include colleges of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences; Business, Arts and Social Sciences; and Health and Life Sciences. The Institutes of Energy Futures; Environment, Health and Societies; and Materials and Manufacturing are the research institutions.
Brunel University is one of the UK’s most vibrant universities, with an unprecedented focus on employability after graduation. The university has a unique approach to its curriculum where most of its courses are accessible as a four year ‘sandwich’, and has one year’s work placement prior to graduation. Currently, almost 13000 students from across 100 countries are pursuing their career here.
Brunel has made great strides in research in the fields of cancer genetics, materials processing, music and digital performance, environmental science, etc. They even host an annual design exhibition of students’ creations called Made In Brunel. The university is popular for its Engineering and Medicine courses. In the year 2015 Brunel was ranked 25th as per the Times Higher Education’s 100 under 50 ranking of the top 100 world universities that are less than 50 years old. The university is also ranked as one of the top 400 universities in the world as per the QS World University Rankings 2020 and also the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.

The Brunel campus is in Uxbridge, London Uxbridge and has easy access to transportation with a major motorway nearby. Direct transport links are accessible to Heathrow airport as well. The University features technologically sound, modern infrastructure that has been constantly updated in past years. It has an impressive sports complex, library section, contemporary facilities for Students’ Union, lecture theaters, auditorium, offices, cafes and eateries, student common rooms, etc. The campus is featured in many films and TV series in the UK.
The University has special laboratories for certain disciplines like bioprocessing, 3D body scanner, electronic imaging, flight, driving and train simulators, MRI scanner, occupational therapy suite, motion capture technology. Sports Facilities
BUL sports facilities are among the finest in the country and are even used by celebrity athletes like Usain Bolt and Yohan Blakely. Team Brunel represents the Students sports clubs. They have over 50 sports clubs. BUL has a Sports Science Centre and offers Sports Scholarships too. The facility features a state-of-the-art Gym and Fitness Centre, spa, running track and sports services. They provide a Sports Performance Programme for 6 competitive sports at the Indoor Athletic Centre. Active@Brunel offers access to non-competitive sports classes.
Study Facilities
The Brunel Library is located at the Bannerman Building. They have 4 separate floors dedicated to the extensive resources and individual or group study spaces. LibSmart is Brunel’s Digital and Information Literacy Programme. LibGuides helps navigate their online library and learning database.
Students’ Union and Student Life
Brunel University London’s student union is called the Union of Brunel Students, and is located at the Hamilton Centre. They run the on campus nightclub called Venue and Loco’s bar. The student-run university newspaper is called Le Nurb. Brunel students are also known to win in the Formula Students Engineering Global Competition, with racing cars manufactured by them.
IT Facilities
The University is equipped with the top-notch IT facilities that include Campus Wi-Fi, internet café, technical operations, online resources and learning modules, and application support services.
BUL’s International Student Support is facilitated through their Student Centre where Advisers, Immigration Teams and Student Welfare Teams work to ensure the comfort and safety of international students. Brunel runs a well-liked 3-day orientation course which is suggested by 95 per cent of participants in the past. Brunel International is a primary contact point for all international students, with around 40 members of staff across a variety of departments who contribute to the general academic support. Over the last ten years the university invested around £400 million on halls of residence and campus infrastructure, ensuring that students’ living experience in the campus will be top-notch here. The University helps international students with off-campus living options for privately rented accommodation or University-approved housing.
Around £400 million worth of investment has lately been completed at the Brunel University London to craft a stimulating state-of-the-art campus that provides students with first-class teaching, social as well as facilities galore. The university refurbished existing halls and also built the new Isambard Complex. There are now nearly 34 self-catering halls of residence on the campus, with 4,549 rooms in total, including a number of studio flats for couples.
