The University of East London (UEL) is a premier public institute in London, England, UK. Located in the London borough of Newham, the UEL has three campuses in Stratford and Dockland. The first campus at Stratford was renamed UEL in 1992, formerly the Polytechnic of East London. The Dockland campus opened its doors in 1999 and the USS (University Square Campus) was opened in 2013.
The University of East London had two beautiful campuses: one in Stratford near the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the other one in London Docklands, close to Royal Albert Dock. University of East London is a public university and it comprises of three colleges; College of Applied Health and Communities, College of Arts, Technology and Innovation, and College of Professional Services. This university is counted among the top academic institutions in England that provide quality education and excellent career opportunities to its students. UEL offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and part-time degree courses across a number of fields such as business, law, social science, journalism, architecture, engineering, health, sports, sciences, psychology, and arts. It is most notable for the incredible historical architecture of the Stratford Campus and the modern, technologically advanced Dockland Campus. Dockland Campus
The Dockland waterfront campus built with futuristic modern designs and modern technology has garnered fame and is even featured in music videos and films. It is endowed with a range of modern amenities. They have state-of-the-art set-ups of lecture halls, seminar classrooms, a library that is open 24/7, a learning centre, AV Labs, and studios. Two major resource centres are the Multimedia Production Centre and the Thames Gateway Technology Centre. The subjects offered here are Computing, IT and Engineering, Art and Design, Architecture, Cultural Studies, Information and Communication Technologies, Media and Communications and Social Sciences. The campus also has shops, bookstores, an impressive Sportsdock centre, cafés, eateries, student lounge and other amenities for the Students’ Union.
Stratford Campus
The Stratford Campus is the oldest campus of the UEL. It has architectural buildings of rich heritage value and is located close to the city centre of Stratford, with the well-known London’s West End nearby. The campus consists of the legendary University House and other buildings spread around The Green. This campus is also well-equipped with the Student’s Union internet café/bar, information centre, offices, shops, book stores, laboratories, studios, lecture halls and the Stratford Central Library and Learning Centre. It contains the schools of Education and Communities, Health Studies, Biosciences, the Centre for Clinical Education in Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Sports Science and Psychology.
University Square Stratford Campus
The University Square Stratford (USS) is the third campus that houses UEL schools in collaboration with Birbeck, University of London. At this campus the UEL offers the subjects of Criminology, Law, MBA, Dance and Performing Arts (Music Performance, Music Technology, Drama and Applied Theatre). This campus caters to over 3400 students. The facilities include studios and tailor-made spaces required for dance and performing arts, an MBA Suite and lecture hall, the Harvard Lecture Theatre equipped with live lecture capture technology. They also have the Weston Learning Centre where students have a space for group or individual study.
Sports Facilities
The UEL has several sports clubs and their activities are guided by ‘UELSports’. They participate in sport leagues and competitions. The Dockland sports centre known as Sportsdock has modern facilities including an indoor gym, basketball, volleyball, badminton and netball courts, two football pitches, a health café, cricket bays as well as a fitness suite. Training and services are provided to students. Since the borough of Newham was a centre for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the UEL has worked closely with these events.
IT Facilities
The University is equipped with the top-notch IT facilities that include Campus Wi-Fi, internet café, technical operations, online resources and learning modules, and application support services.
The USS has set up a specialist education advice and guidance team that is accessible to students by email, telephone or via the student helpdesk. They have special services to cater to international students including admissions, visas or accommodation. They also have international scholarships, international summer schools, and preparation courses too. As career support the university has set up a Centre for Student Success and Online Career Coach. They help students with work experience through civic engagement and volunteering.
The UELSU – University of East London Students’ Union works to represent students across all three campuses and provides assistance and services to them. They have societies, clubs campaigns and also assist international students with their special needs.
The University of East London is among the select institutes in London that offer on-campus accommodation to students. They have spectacular waterfront Halls of Residence that overlooks the Royal Albert Dock. The Dockland campus can cater to a strength of 1200 students and comes with facilities such as laundry, utilities, Wi-Fi etc. They even offer assistance with off-campus accommodations if required by the student. On campus stay allows students to experience the exciting campus life, make new friends and be part of a supportive learning and living community.
